When Isn’t EV Charger Installation the Right Fit for Us?

That includes Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco, Allen, Irving, Carrollton, and the towns around Lake Ray Hubbard. If your home or business sits outside that circle, we’ll say so on the phone. We won’t schedule a visit we can’t reliably follow up on. A charger install isn’t a one-and-done errand, you know? We want to be close enough to come back if you ever need warranty work or a service call, and a long drive makes that harder to promise.

We also won’t take a job if the goal is to skip a permit or dodge an inspection. EV charger circuits run at higher amperage than most household outlets. Sunnyvale straddles the Dallas County and Kaufman County line. This means the permitting process can depend on which side of that line a property sits. Every install we do goes in to code. A licensed electrician pulls the right paperwork through the town’s permitting process. If cutting that corner is the point of the call, we’ll pass on the job respectfully rather than argue about it.

One more spot where we’re not the right fit: labor-only installs of a charger you bought somewhere else that we didn’t select or verify. We back our installs with a workmanship warranty. A licensed electrician who holds an electrical contractor license through TDLR and pulls permits through the local building department has to stand behind the work for years, not just the day it’s installed.

What We’d Tell You to Do Instead

If your home or business sits outside the Sunnyvale and DFW Metroplex area we cover, the right move is to find a licensed electrician closer to you. We work a roughly 60-mile radius out of Sunnyvale. This covers Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco, Allen, Irving, Carrollton, and the towns in between, including Mesquite, Forney, Garland, Rockwall, and Rowlett. Past that radius we can’t promise a same-day follow-up if something needs a second look, so we’d rather point you toward someone local than take the job anyway.

If you’re hoping to skip the permit or have the panel work done off the books, we’re not going to be a fit either. A dedicated circuit for a Level 2 charger runs off your main panel. That kind of electrical work gets inspected for a reason, especially with the extreme summer heat and heavy electrical loads common in North Texas homes. Skipping that step can cause problems later with insurance or with selling the house. And it’s not a corner we cut. If that’s the plan, you’ll need to find someone willing to work outside code. That’s a real risk to weigh before you go that route.

The other common mismatch is a charger you already bought somewhere else, expecting us to just mount it and wire it up. We don’t do labor-only installs on customer-supplied equipment. Our workmanship warranty only covers gear we sourced and can stand behind if something fails. If you’ve already got a charger in the box, your options are either to have the seller or manufacturer arrange installation. Or, let us quote the job with a unit we supply so the whole install, mounting, and startup testing is covered under our guarantee.

• Outside our coverage area: look for a licensed electrician in your own town instead of one working a long drive from Sunnyvale.
• Want to skip permits or inspections: know that this affects code compliance, insurance, and resale, and find a contractor willing to work that way, which we won’t.
• Already own a charger: check if the manufacturer offers installation support, or ask us to quote a new install with equipment we supply and warranty.
